Will Jab Tak Hai Jaan end SRK's dry spell

Bollywood badshah Shah Rukh Khan returns on the big screen withJab Tak Hai Jaanthis Diwali. But he is very cautious. Unlike last time when the hype aroundRa.Onereached a crescendo, but the film turned out to be a dud, SRK is playing safe this time. Not wanting to indulge in number game, he is keeping mum.

Deeply saddened by the sudden demise of Yash Chopra, with whom he shotJab Tak Hai Jaan, he is not willing to even go to Switzerland to shoot the remaining one and a half minute of a song sequence that is still incomplete. He recently said, "you don't go to Switzerland without Yash ji."
While there is a strong buzz by trade pundits that the romantic saga by Yash Chopra can cross theRs.200 crore mark, it remains to be seen how the film actually performs at the Box Office. There are also reports that say Ajay Devgn is being pressured into postponing his Son Of Sardar as a mark of respect for Yash Chopra. If that happens, will it boost the prospects ofJTHJ?
Shah Rukh Khan's last films My Name Is Khan andDon 2couldn't make it big on the Box Office. His fans are eagerly awaiting the release ofJab Tak Hai Jaan. So, will lover boy SRK's magic work again?

With Ajay, Aamir, SRK and Akshay close on his heels, will Salman Khan be able to stay on top?Coming months will be the defining time for the top five superstars who drive the Bollywood film trade
It's no longer about joining the 100-crore club, they have already done it. The next 12 months or so will see Bollywood's top five superstars boldly go to box-office extremes that no other star has ever ventured to before.
With the competition at the top heating up, there is no space for a slip-up. If Salman Khan has staked his claim as Bollywood's reigning number one, his challenge will be to retain that spot with his next string of releases.
Salman Khan takes on SRK again, promotes Son of Sardaar on Bigg Boss 6 setSalman Khan is making it quite clear on whose side he is when it comes to the big boxoffice battle this Diwali, when Ajay Devgn'sSon Of Sardaarclashes with Shah Rukh Khan'sJab Tak Hai Jaan.
That Shah Rukh and Salman don't exactly share cordial relations is well known. On the other hand, Ajay as well as hisSon Of Sardaar(SOS) co-star Sanjay Dutt are known to be close to Salman and theDabanggsuperstar seems to be going all out to promote Ajay's film.

Jab Tak Hai Jaan's hot smooches: Why Shah Rukh kissed Katrina

The hot smooches of SRK's Jab Tak Hai Jaan were as much in news as the film itself. The intimate kissing scenes between Shah Rukh and Katrina were so much talked about because of two reasons.

Firstly, there were reports that it had angered Salman(Katrina being his ex girlfriend and he himself being against such acts on screen) and secondly because SRK has always refrained from kissing his female leads.

SRK has done some sexually explicit scenes in the past, but he has always avoided kissing his heroines. But in Jab Tak Hai Jaan, there are a number of scenes when SRK plants a kiss on his girl, his plea is- story's demand.
On being questioned SRK admitted he was very uncomfortable about the smooches but Aditya Chopra, Yash Chopra and Katrina convinced him.

"I had a couple of rules actually - that I won't ride a horse and I won't kiss. Both are cumbersome. I don't know how to do both on screen."

"I will be very honest. Adi (Aditya Chopra), Yash ji and Katrina, and I say this with all humility and thankfulness to them, that they knew I was awkward, I had issues and I am a very easy actor to work with. They are like my family and they said, 'You don't have to do this' and then they got together and they forced me and then even paid me for it."
"So... when heroines say that 'I wore a bikini because the story demanded me to', I did it (the kiss) because the story demanded it. Believe me or don't believe it," said the 47-year-old actor, who has been in showbiz for over two decades.

Shah Rukh feels doing something as intimate as a kiss on screen, is mechanical."It is very mechanical with 100 people telling you what to do. It's very odd. I don't even do photoshoots with heroines if it is not for my film and that is also rude, but I don't want to waste anyone's time. I find it very awkward taking my shirt off and posing. I can do it in character for film," he said.
While Shah Rukh's kiss was being talked about so much, no one mentioned Katrina has she has been comfortably kissing her co-starts in most of her films. Why can't Sallu take some tips form her on how to shed inhibitions!

Pakistan pays tribute to Yash Chopra at red carpet premiere of Jab Tak Hai Jaan

Amidst reports of a possible ban and having only been cleared by censors in Pakistan, the eve ahead of its international Diwali release; Yash Chopra's last directorial venture, Jab Tak Hai Jaanopened to packed houses across the border on Thursday, November 15th.

To celebrate the life and times of Yash Chopra, the television and film fraternity in Karachi gathered to pay tribute to this director extraordinaire with a red carpet premiere of Jab Tak Hai Jaan the same evening as its release.

Tennis player Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi said, "I'm not a big fan of romantic movies. But Yash Chopra has produced so many classics through out his lifetime and we all should come out and give tribute to him. And I'm just looking forward to this movie, I'm sure it will be a great one as well."

Despite Jab Tak Hai Jaan being Yash Chopra's first and only film to release on big screen in Pakistan; transcending boundaries, Yash Chopra is remembered and lauded by his fans, as the 'king of romance'.

"Jis qism ki log filmain dekhna chahatay hain, jis qism ka romance dekhna chahtay hain, I think un ko logon kis us nafas ka pata tha kay un ko kya kya dekhana hai. Romance kay moments to create karma un ko bohat acha aata tha," said Humayun Saeed, actor of Bollywood film, Jashn.

And even after his passing, Yash Chopra through his legacy of cinematic classics continues to inspire artists across the border.

Actress Humaima Malick who starred in the award winning film, Bol, said, "I am one of the luckiest people in this world to have met Yash ji, one on one. Still today remember, the warmth he shared with me and the way he welcomed me at his office This film brings a lot of intensity to me as an artist. Yash Raj, Yash Chopra was the one and only, who actually tells us how to romance on screen. And I think that was the most sensitive thing about him."

A son of Lahore; Mr Chopra's narratives like in the case of Veer Zara, have often brought forth his fondness for Pakistan. Only fitting for audiences across the border, to bid him adieu by on 35mm.

Writer Shagufta Rafique of Raaz fame, says, "I think if he were there, he would have been part of this too. He would have loved to come and see the film in Pakistan. He must be very happy wherever he is, thinking that there are people in the country where he was once part of, watching the film and admiring it at the same time. He would have been very happy."

Having struck a chord with audiences in Pakistan, Jab Tak Hai Jaan's red-carpert screening concluded to the sound of thunderous applause and a standing ovation in honour of one of Bollywood's and Lahore's finest - Yash Chopra.

Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Ra.One, which was released last year, grossed around Rs 91 crore in seven days. Jab Tak Hai Jaan's seven-day collections however pip those of another Shah Rukh Khan movie Don 2, which netted around Rs 71 crore in the same period.

Jab Tak Hai Jaan's business in Maharashtra was hit due to the death of Balasaheb Thackeray and collections are expected to slowly pick up in the state.

'Jab Tak Hai Jaan': 8 things that could have improved the film and made it immortal

Legendary filmmaker Yash Chopra signed off with a flourish with his romantic drama 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' - his last film before his death this year. The film has his signature courtships and nuanced complexities set in India and London.
But the film falls far short of expectations that come attached to swansongs. Chopra, who's the master of emotional dramas such as 'Kabhie Kabhie' and 'Silsila', simply fails to create a magnum opus with JTHJ. The scrutiny is greater because Shah Rukh Khan, the protagonist of the film, is back to the genre he ruled for over two decades before experimenting with science fiction and negative roles in classic remakes.
So what went wrong in 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan'? And how could the film have been a better send-off for the iconic director?

Plot: For starters - the film is weighed down due to the lack of a cohesive plot. The film hinges on one women's promise to God to stay away from the man she loves for the rest of her life. It's a bit far-fetched. She makes that promise right after he is hit by a car. She makes her peace with Jesus Christ in the end, but not before she has wasted 10 years of her life. Shah Rukh on the other hand returns to India and enlists for the Indian Army - age be damned. The man who was shown waiting tables in London because he wasn't cut out for any specialized career, becomes the army's most coveted bomb disposal expert. People expecting a tragic twist in the end were rewarded with a happy ending to the romance that waited its turn. But somehow the ending falls flat. A better screenplay would have elevated the film to another level.
Cast: There is no doubting that Shah Rukh is Indian cinema's quintessential romantic hero. He's the boss in the matters of the heart. Or he was, until age begun to mark his face with its lines and creases. His 25-year-old portrayal of a busker in London just doesn't cut it. The heroines look much younger than him and his moments with Katrina came across as stiff and awkward. An older female lead cast would have worked wonders.
Heroines: Heroines have always formed a crucial part of Yash Chopra's romances. From Rakhee to Rekha, Waheeda to Madhuri, the Chopra heroines are all about understated sensuality and elegance. Though immaculately turned out, Katrina is wooden throughout the film. She's glamorous and has perhaps scripted the best piece of percussive party dance number ever but fails to add depth to her character, making it very difficult for her audiences to feel any sympathy for her. Anushka Sharma as an over-eager intern for the Discovery Channel is much more believable. She tries to channel Kareena Kapoor in a 'Jab We Met'-type pitch to Shah Rukh, but for the most part she's annoyingly chatty and overdoes her brief.
Music: This isn't your usual AR Rahman. The maestro's magic touch is lacking and none of the songs are memorable even after months of promotion. The selection of background voice artistes is poor, because Shah Rukh and Katrina's voice do not match with them and the resulting product jars on the ears.
Different leads: Though it sounds improbable, but could Chopra have chosen different leads for his film? Though Shah Rukh makes the role his own, he does not fit into the lover-boy image at 47. Who could have worked for this role? Ranbir Kapoor would have been a good alternate choice along with
Parineeti and Priyanka Chopra.
Length: The length of Jab Tak Hai Jaan is a major issue. At 179 minutes it feels far too stretched. The editing could have been crisper.
Attention to details: A struggling Pakistani, who could not hold down a job long enough to save some money to send back home, makes it big as the manager of a posh eatery in London in 10 years' time with the help of a fist full of bank notes. A rich NRI girl falls for the busker. A reporter shoves a camera in the face of a bomb disposal squad officer while he's defusing live ammunition. The same reporter, who is supposedly an expert swimmer, plunges into a freezing Ladakh lake for a dare and almost drowns. It's the lack of attention to details that takes away half the joy from watching JTHJ.
Sex: Sex and intrigue have always been integral parts of Chopra's films. While a pair of dandelion would have sufficed in the 60s and a shot of two pairs of legs rubbing against each other in the 70s, it simply does not make the cut in 2012. Audiences are bred on much rougher stuff in films, videos and television series and the sexually loaded moments in the film fall flat.

'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' earns Rs 35 cr, 'Son of Sardaar' gathers Rs 27 cr in two days

New Delhi: Now, when the box office figures have started to pour in, both 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' and 'Son of Sardaar' are emerging as the winners. Ajay Devgn starrer 'Son of Sardaar' might have earned less than 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' but that is due to the lesser number of screens made available to the film, however the total amount gathered by 'SOS' matches up to the expectations.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweets, "#JTHJ [India] Tue 15.23 cr, Wed 19.54 cr. Total: 34.77 cr nett. FANTASTIC."
He also tweets about the money fetched by 'Son of Sardaar' at the ticket window, "#SOS [India] Tue 10.72 cr, Wed 16.21 cr. Total: 26.93 cr nett. SUPERB."

Both the films opened to mixed reviews and Diwali fetched them initial footfalls but now the content will decide the fate of these films at the box office.
These highly publicized films may cross the Rs 100 crore mark but they would probably not find a place in the list of the best films of 2012 as they are not equally acceptable in all quarters of India.

'Jab Tak Hai Jaan': Shah Rukh Khan's painfully awkward romance with Katrina Kaif

New Delhi: 'I'm going to kiss you now, and I do not think you would slap me," superstar Shah Rukh Khan says to Katrina Kaif at London's Charing Cross station waiting to catch a train home. Well, ouch. Would you believe that in a magical career spanning over two decades, the man has never kissed a lead actress in any of his films?
He chose to do it in a film that could well be the best role he has ever played but unfortunately with an actress who is 20 years younger than him and the awkwardness showed.
In the first half of the film, played out mostly in flashback, Khan makes his living doing odd jobs in London. He shares a flat with a young Pakistani man and plays the guitar by the roadside for lunch money.

Then he meets Katrina, who plays rich NRI girl Meera in the film, while shovelling snow outside a church and he is instantly smitten. The eternal love story that spans a decade after that is a study in inspired moments quilted with the downright absurd. Shah Rukh has given his career's best performance. His is the shoulder the film rests on, not Katrina's or Anushka's. And he carries the burden well. But he could have had a little help from Katrina, who does nothing to bridge the gap between the awkward and the sublime.
Yash Chopra, the director of Jab Tak Hai Jaan, was bordering on 80 when he started the film. He is the master of old world romances that were full of intrigue, moments of conflict and heady charm. But perhaps he failed gauge the depth of love in the 21st century and in the process trivialized and generalized it to a cringe-worthy 'make-out-break-up' model.
Shah Rukh, who's restrained and mature as he goes through two complex roles, goes to pieces when he's paired with Katrina, one of the loveliest faces in cinema at the moment. He is 47 years old and it shows in the first half as he tries to woo her.
It's commendable that Chopra, despite his age, tries to remodel his traditional heroines from the underplayed sensuous to the modern day 'cool'. Katrina smokes a cigarette outside her own engagement party and the other is a tomboyish, over-excited little thing.
But a series of awkward kisses captured mostly in long shots and covered up with locks of hair falling over the face of the two actors are the only moments of intimacy between Shah Rukh and Katrina.
Chopra belongs to a different era, we understand that. Perceptions about reality have shifted within filmmaking over the years. But 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' has a soul of the 1960s trapped in a body from 2012. Shah Rukh, who keeps both actresses grounded in the film with a remarkable performance, unfortunately comes across as staid and out-of-place in his romance with Katrina.
The rubbing of toes signifying a heavy make-out session leading to sex, does not work in the day and age of gritty, realistic films. You can argue that Yash Chopra's romances are from a different era and that's why they are special.
It could have been more believable had Shah Rukh been paired with someone close to his age, such as Kajol.
But in the end, what you see on screen is about as real as it's going to get. And the tentative kisses and willing acceptance of a fate thrust upon him by Katrina in a juvenile promise to god, just does not make it.

We promised yesterday that today we will reveal the plot of "Jab Tak Hai Jaan", next Shahrukh Khan release directed by Bollywood's most prolific and most experienced director Yash Chopra. We already did 5 coverage of same film and unveiled SRK's character name, his profession, date when title will be out and some other things with 100% success rate.

After our announcement yesterday, we got few mails, tweets and feedback on facebook regarding the same. Majority of you enthusiastic about it but few expressed their concerns over it stating that these revelations will spoil the fun of watching the film. But we want to clarify that like our earlier reports we keep all these facts in mind. Whatever we revealed later came out in open via posters and new bytes in other parts of media. We want to assure that we are just doing it before anyone else EXCLUSIVELY that is it. Also there will NOT BE ANY SPOILERS and we will NOT REVEAL ANYTHING which is crucial to the film.

So let’s start the fun ride on one of the biggest films of recent times - "JAB TAK HAI JAAN".

Shahrukh Khan (Samar) works in army in bomb disposal squad. He is very introvert and doesn't talk much. It seems that he went through some trauma and his bad experiences are not leaving his mind, body and soul. He came to Kashmir to forget those bruises from the past and indulge in an army operation. Samar decides that the only way to forget the pain is to prepare it for bigger things. He goes on strict workout training and joins the army
He meets Anushka Sharma (Muskaan) who talks a lot and is tomboyish kind of a girl. She works for a wildlife channel. She starts liking Samar but Samar is lost in his past. And here film moves to flashback.

There is a parallel track of Samar's parents (most probably played by Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor) who also had very intense love story before marriage.Samar takes a cue from them about the intensity of love and life. There are couple of character artistes who play Shahrukh's senior in army (probably Anushka's brother) and friends in London.

What happens to Khushi, will Muskaan get her love and whether Samar will overcome his past and embraced the present, How Samar finds true love between life and death, hope and despair and present and past forms the rest of the story. This is a love saga which depicts eternity of love and passion of souls entrenched in love.

We hope that we had not revealed too much and hope this makes excitement for the movie soars to new height.

Jab Tak Hai Jaan goes to Jalandhar

Film promotions in Bollywood have become affairs as elaborate as the films themselves, with multi-city tours and star-fan interactions. Most films woo audiences in the metros and certain upcoming cities.

But the late Yash Chopra’s last directorial venture, Jab Tak Hai Jaan (JTHJ), is set to go into the Punjabi heartland in Jalandhar, which is where Chopra spent a large part of his formative years and had an ancestral home.

Shah Rukh says, “As a tribute to him, we will be going to Delhi and Jalandhar. I will also go to Kolkata for the International Film Festival. We had wanted to screen the film there, but we can’t since we have a premiere in Mumbai.”

Shah Rukh is excited about the film’s promotional plans. “Every film has its own promotion ideology. The marketing of JTHJ was always going to be sober, as the film is a classic love story in a modern language. It has a typical Yash Chopra heroine in a modern avatar played by Katrina, another who is more practical and idealistic played by Anushka, and myself — a man who can’t die,” he says rather mysteriously.

“You take all this and modernise it, but essentially it’s a Yash Chopra film, and people understand what his cinema stands for. JTHJ is an entertainer and a happy film.”

COMPAT refuses to stay 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' screening

he Competition Appellate Tribunal today refused to stay the screening of 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' produced by Yash Raj Films but issued notices to the production house on Ajay Devgn's plea that alleged abuse of dominant position. Ajay Devgn Films (ADF) had moved the tribunal after the Competition Commission rejected the plea against Yash Raj Films for alleged abuse of dominant positions.

Both Ajay Devgn's 'Son of Sardar' and 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' are slated to release on November 13 and advanced bookings have already started. The tribunal said huge economic interests are at stake for both the parties' films and there could be irreparable loss, if the release is stayed. "We desist from passing any order," it said and noted that "it would not be proper on our part to freeze the agreements" between Yash Raj Films and the single screen film exhibitors.

However, the tribunal has issued notices to Yash Raj Films (YRF) along with its distributor entities, following ADF's appeal. The tribunal bench headed by chairman Justice VS Sirpurkar also said that "it was not expressing any opinion (about the matter) at this stage".

On the second day of hearing today, film maker Prakash Jha, a close friend of Ajay Devgn, was present and was assisting ADF's lawyers during the proceedings. Fair trade regulator Competition Commission had rejected Devgn's complaint against Yash Raj Films, saying that there are no violations of competition norms in the case. ADF had moved the Commission alleging that Yash Raj Films was using its dominant position to ask exhibitors to dedicate more screens to its own upcoming release, Shahrukh Khan-starer 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan', affecting Devgn's film 'Son of Sardaar'.

The Commission had said Devgn did not place on record any data related to market share or economic strength to show how the YRF was in a dominant position in the relevant market. Last Friday, the Delhi High Court had asked the CCI to "expeditiously" decide on Ajay Devgn Films' complaint that 'Son of Sardaar' was allegedly not getting enough single-screen theatres as Yash Raj Films allegedly has used its dominant position for better exhibition of 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan'.

As per the Commission, the grievance of Ajay Devgn Films arose due to fear that it would not get enough theatres for 'Son of Sardaar' because of the agreement of single screen theatres with Yash Raj Films at the time of releasing 'Ek Tha Tiger'.
